Bullying in Schools: A Growing Concern

Bullying in schools has become a hot topic — and sadly, it’s happening far too often. We need to understand that our children are no longer babies. As parents, educators, and as a school community, we all have a responsibility to address bullying regularly through open talks, workshops, and awareness campaigns.

However, it starts at home. Parents need to have honest conversations with their children about the laws of our country and the consequences that come with bullying. Many young people don’t realize that bullying — especially on social media — can follow them for the rest of their lives. What might feel like “standing up for what’s right” in the moment can, in reality, be a criminal offense.

We must listen when a child cries out for help — whether it’s your own child or another being bullied daily at school. Even if it seems small, never ignore it. If your child mentions something, contact the school immediately. Nothing about bullying is small. Every incident matters.

We also need to teach our children to be responsible and respectful. Remind them every day, before they leave home, to make good choices. In today’s world, most kids carry phones — a simple text message during the day reminding them to stay kind and mindful can make a difference.

If we all take responsibility — as parents, teachers, and schools — we can create a safe environment for every child. This is one of the reasons many parents are choosing smaller schools like Aspeling High, where learners can feel secure and any matter can be addressed quickly and personally.

Let’s work together to guide our children onto the right path — one built on respect, empathy, and accountability.
